The

…A.
de Garaude - membre de l'Ecole royale de musique et de la chapelle
du Roi
Alexis de Garaudé, * 21. March 1779 in Nancy, + 23. March 1852 in
Paris;
Alexis de Garaudé belonged to
the nobility, because his father was parliament advice in Nancy. He
studied music only to the completion of its education first, was
spoiled by the revolution, however, and went over to music to earn
cost of living. Short time later, he seriously went to Paris and
took his music studies. He was a pupil of Cambini and later of
Reicha (harmony and Komposition.) as well as of Crescentini and
Garat (song). He got 1808 as a singer into the quay (he lost this
position by the dissolution after the revolution of 1830th).
In 1816 he had been appointed teacher for Vocalisation and Solfège
at the Conservatoire. He was an excellent teacher. He stayed until
his retirement 1841 at the Conservatoire. In the meantime, he was
promoted Prof. of a song class (1835), member of the
Comité d'enseignement
(1837-1839) and to the knight of the legion of honour, an award
which only seldom was granted to the artists of the time then.
Alexis de Garaudé was one of
the most important representatives of the French romance;. In
addition, he was a famous song teacher and unequalled master of the
Solfèges. This already results from this that his Solfèges are still
used and new printed today in the French music studies. Besides his
actual musical activity he conducted a music publisher and tried
himself as writer and music critic. He is also author of some texts
of his romances. His only opera La lyre enchantée was never
performed, but it was sung by Nourrit, Mme Albert and Mlle
Grassari.
The hornist Buziau was certainly consulted by Garaudé .
Unfortunately, it was not possible for the editor to find further
biographical facts to Buziau.
