Franz Anton Hoffmeister (1754 - 1812)

Concerto E major for horn and orchestras

Hoffmeister’s Concerto  belongs to a series of works for solo horn(s). Hoffmeister composed for the hornists Zwierzina and Nagel  two concertos for two horns and even one concerto for three horns, which is only known because of the preserved second movement, the Romance.

Also not missing is the “Premier Concerto” in D Major for solo horn, which is known by the Breitkopf-Catalogue of 1782-84.

The concerto in E Major is now edited and published for the first time.

Hoffmeister’s concertos were very often played, as we can see by the numorous performances in that time. In Leipzig, for example, we know of three performances ( 1782, 1799, 1808).
