Johann David Heinichen (1683 - 1729)
Concerto for 2 Corni da caccia and Orchestra
Johann David Heinichen, son of an protestant pastor, was born 17th April
1683 in Crössuln near Weissenfels. He attended the Thomas School in
Leipzig in 1696 under the leading of Schelle (1648 - 1701) and was
taught in harpsichord and organ by Johann Kuhnau (1660-1722). In 1702
Johann David began study of law at the university in Leipzig and worked
some years as advocator. In 1717 Heinichen was employed as master chapel
of the Court Chapel in Dresden. Until his early death, he composed
numerous concerti, chamber music works and music for churches on the
purpose of the Saxony Court.
One of the forgotten treasures is this concerto, which is kept in the
Saxony University Library Dresden with the signature Mus. 2398-0-10.
