Paul Wineberger ( 1758 - 1821)

As a colleague of Antonio Rosetti and Josef Reicha, Paul Wineberger played the cello in the Court Chapel zu Öttingen-Wallerstein.

He was born in Mergentheim 1758 and studied music theory and composition in Mannheim, his teacher were Joseph "Abbé"  Vogler and Ignaz Holzbauer. First he learnt the violin, later he changed to the cello and was the substitute for Franz Danzi at the Mannheimer Orchestra.

In 1780 he moved to Wallerstein. Five years later he became chapel master and leader of the princely chase and table music. In 1798 Wineberger went to Hamburg and played at the French Theater and the Theater am Gänsemarkt. He was also a famous teacher, one of his students was the piano player Johann Heinrich Clasing (1779 - 1829). He died in Hamburg 1821.

He composed all varieties of needed court music as sinfonies, sacred music, solo concertos and wind instrument parthias.

This concerto was composed in 1782 , probably for the excellent horn players at Wallerstein, Joseph Nagel and Franz Zwierzina. The concerto can be found in the collection of Franz Zwierzina.
