Giovanni Punto (1746 - 1803)

• Quintet F-major for Horn, Flute or Oboe, Violin, Viola and Basso

Punto's compositions have a little darker side. Frequently there is an aftertaste of plagiarism as wonderful as they are. The source of the quintet on hand is a print of Sieber 1789. It contains three quintets for horn, flute or oboe, violin, viola and basso.  The title says:

Trios Quintetti// Compose par M.Punto  

The first quintet seems to be of Punto originally and it was probably also written for this instrumentation. However, there is a small signature in the second quintet that the composer was Rosetti, as well as the third quintet was composed by Fiorillo. It seems to be appropriate to publish the quintets in different editions to clarify the different composers. Whereas, the edition names Punto as the arranger of the second and third quintet.
