Music at the Court of Schwerin

Johann Matthias Sperger

Concerto E flat major for Horn and Orchestra (SWV B26)

- First Edition -

Sperger was born in Feldberg (Valtice/Czechia, today Austria) in 1750. He was trained as bass player and worked at courts of Grosswardstein and Eisenstadt. He was employed at the court of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. He died in 1812.

The manuscript of this concerto( mus 5174/10 ) is kept in the music collection of the library Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Schwerin. It is composed in the style of the Viennese classical music. This is likely unusual by the place of its genesis.

The concert was played in newly on CD of Miklós Nagy in the complete setting in the year 2003

It was first recorded by Peter Damm and the Staatskapelle Dresden, Eterna 1978.
