Serenata a tre

 for Flute, Viola and Horn

(SmWV 608)

-first edition -

Franz Xaver Süßmayr (1766 - 1803), pupil of W.A Mozart, this Serenata composed in Baden at Vienna in the year 1793. Unfortunately, it did not complete these. The first movement is edited in the two settings handed down in the first edition on hand, the movements 3 and 4 are published fragmentarily only according to the autograph. For whom this enchanting serenade was you cannot find out exactly. Süßmayr stayed, however, in the castle Gutttenbrunn as a guest of the baron Raymund of Wetzlar at Baden in summer 1793.
The very interesting side is recommended for further information about Süßmayr by Dr. Erich Duda http://suessmayr.at
