What was the reason for the new edition of this famous and popular work, that is even recorded? The first reason was, that the president of the International Rosetti Society ask me for new revised material. By looking at the source from the collection Zwierzina I discovered many little differences between the source and the present print. In summary, the impression of the work was distorted. Many witty passages were changed according to the music interpretation of the 60s. A known example is the replacement of wedge by dot. Accidentals were left out or added in order to make the usual sound of such a work. But just these little harmonic changes are the interesting part of that epoch. Several semibreves were left out or added. The notes of the tutti-horns in the solo horn parts were left out. But these are necessary according to the correct musik transition. There are several reasons for these tutti notes. First, they give the soloist the possibility to play some natural tones before his solo. Second, if there were no tutti horn players in the orchestra, for instance because of the higher costs, the concerto for two horns could also be played and the solists played the tutti parts, too. I think that the new edition gives reason for new interest in this work, because there seems to be a new concerto born without the "thick painted colour". |
