Numerous famous musicians of the 18th and 19th century belonged to the family Schuncke. Acknowledgement is meant for the Schuncke-Archiv in Baden-Baden, which is lead by Michael Schuncke who searches on his family Schuncke its surroundings. The hornists in the family tree 

Johann Gottfried Schuncke (1742 - 1807)

He was the first passionate horn player in the family, although he worked as master baker in Schkortleben near Weißenfels/Saale.

Following children played the horn, too 

Johann Gottfried (1777 - 1861) Hornist in Kassel and Stuttgart Johann Michael (1778 - 1821) Hornist in Kassel and Stuttgart Johann Andreas   (1780 - 1849) Hornist in Berlin Johann Christoph (1791 - 1856) Hornist in Karlsruhe Johann Gotthilf (1797 after 1840)  Hornist in Stockholm

The children Friedrich (born 1784) and Gottlob (born 1790)also played the horn but chose other professions.  


The following sons (grandsons of Johann Gottfried) played the horn, too.

- Julius (1808 - ?) royal hornist in Berlin, later actor

- Carl ( 1811 - 1879) royal hornist in Berlin

- Hermann ( 1825 - 1898)royal hornist in Berlin, later piano teacher and composer in Dresden
